A few things
A) 2011 had been suuuuuuch an amazing year for me. It’s mostly been a year of learning and growth, and also quite a few “firsts” in my life.
I’ve been blessed to have received three different awards in each field that I strive to excel in: for music, I won the Loyola School Award for the Arts trophy as Reese & Vica; for fashion, I won the Most Fashionable Female of Ateneo Batch 2011 during the Blue Roast awards; and lastly for art and design, I won the PGDA Magenta trophy (the highest award for student work) for my thesis, DIY or DIE (as featured in the articles above).
I feel like 2011 has helped me forge a more specific direction that I’d want to take in my life, and I’m grateful for everything that has happened and most especially, everyone that I’ve known and met this year who has helped in my search for a more meaningful ~existence~ lolwut. No but seriously.
B) I’d love to make a TRIBUTE TO 2011 ENTRY! But I’ll be unfashionably late (if ever I do get to make it) cause as per usual, school is killing my bonesssss.
C) As for my Blog Birthday Giveaway, YOU GUYS MADE ME CRY WITH ALL THOSE COMMENTS! I am deeply, deeply overwhelmed by all the kind words that has been written about me and the blog, and I really want to thank each and everyone of you, whether you’re an old or new reader, for sticking through me and all my endeavors. It feels so great to know that people out there appreciate what I value, what I’m made of. And given that, I HAD (AND AM HAVING) SUCH A HARD TIME CHOOSING THE WINNERS. So please please allow me to think this over very carefully. I’ll announce the winners soon, hopefully by the end of the week. But I’d just like to take the opportunity to thank everyone – EVERYONE – who joined, who attempted to join, who wanted to join. Thank you for your suggestions, I really needed the constructive comments.
A few questions -
1) Does my font really look small to you guys? I HAPPEN TO LIKE SMALL FONTS HUHU let me know if anyone else is having a hard time reading the content.
2) I apologize for the large pictures. I do understand that some monitors or browsers don’t support the layout that I’ve designed for this blog, but I really meant for Reeseypeasy.com to have big photos. I want to tell a story through (hopefully) arresting photos so I’m afraid I won’t really be downgrading in photo size. However, I will work on trying to make a layout that’s more flexible to other browsers and monitor screens
Btw, for those who were wondering, I did the design of the whole site. My header and homepage was a collage and painting which I’ve digitally translated. The layout was something I’ve been working on for quite awhile now and has seen lots of changes, but I’m really happy with it
IT’S SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE THIS IN YOUR BROWSER. I apologize if it doesn’t huhu. Since I don’t know squat about coding, I tapped my friend to code everything for me and she did an AMAZING job at it. If ever you need any coding done for you, please don’t hesitate to hire her. Here is her portfolio !
D) Lastly, to start the year 2012 right, I present to you my 2012 features!!!
The first two images are from my feature on Stache Magazine‘s Anniversary issue. It’s about DIY or DIE, my thesis. I don’t think I’ve ever revealed and divulged about my thesis as much as I have for this interview, so PLEASE PLEASE read the whole thing! Click the photos to enlarge the text
Then, I wrote another song together with Dae! Remember Wherein Hipster Guy Goes For Hipster Girl? That’s our first one
This second one is called Dream (we might put up an mp3 download sometime, if people like it, I don’t know haha) Please do watch his vlog, it’s really meaningful and inspiring and really unexpectedly funny as well. You’ll hear the song we wrote in the background too.
Also, if you guys have been to Fully Booked lately, you might have noticed this bright, colorful, doodle-y book called Unscripted, stacked nicely on their shelves. Unscripted is a book conceptualized around Sarah Meier & Vicky Herrera’s old radio show, The Dollhouse, AND I was privileged enough to have designed a few pages for this book!
The day after Christmas, my family and I went to Fully Booked to get our highly needed book-fix, and as the fates would have it, both Sarah and Vicky were there having a shoot around the store, with their book. After much prodding, my Mom finally convinced me to come up to them and introduce myself as one of the contributors. And I’m glad I did! The girls were soooo incredibly friendly, what happened was overwhelming! They actually recognized me as the girl who made DIY or DIE. As it turns out, Unscripted was patterned after the way I designed my thesis in the sense that every page is different and tailor-fitted for each theme and feature. I remember Vicky telling me how they’ve hit a roadblock during the conceptualization stage of Unscripted, and when Create.ph (the studio responsible for the whole design of the book) decided to show my book trailer to them in hopes of sparking interest, they got excited because that’s exactly what they wanted for their own book. That’s when things started jumping off (so they’ve said).
It’s mindblowing how DIY or DIE could’ve done such a thing, it just really is. I don’t even. Hay. They wrote me the kindest notes in the world, too.
Life is awesome.
Lastly, I have a surprise feature in the latest issue of Candy Magazine (Jan-Feb 2012 issue). My cousin found a scan of it online while reading Vern’s blog (scan credit goes to her, thanks Vern!) Again, thank you Candy mag for letting me grace your pages once again. I remember being such an avid reader since I was in Grade 6, reading it over and over the first time I was confined in the hospital for dengue, even sending letters via post in hopes that I see my letter appear on the “Letter We Love” column. My letter never made it to Candy, but who would’ve thought that my face would? A pretty good trade off, if you ask me
Anyway, this has been a lengthy post! But I think everything has been said! Please do read my DIY or DIE feature as I feel you’d appreciate (and get to know) my thesis more because of the interview.
Thank you Stache (again and again) for the feature! Thank you Dae for being my eternal collab mate! Thank you Sarah, Vicky, and Create.ph for the opportunity to contribute! And thank you Candy for just being a great go-to for the young and the young at heart!
And that is all

WAHAHA omg. I’M SO SORRY ABOUT THE DELAY WITH THE LAYOUT. Although it doesn’t scroll horizontally in smaller resolutions and on Chrome/Firefox/Safari the pictures are supposed to resize (ish) to fix the width! D: But but I’ll work on it again I promise. D: SORRY REEESE OMG.

Thanks so much Ena. It’s something we should all remember

)
Congratulations on all of the features, what a great way to start off 2012! Definitely going to bookmark the ‘DIY or DIE’ interview to read later as it sounds quite interesting and your thesis was so-so interesting ^^ Actually, I happen to like small fonts too, so I don’t mind this one at all! (And the large photographs work because the rest of the site design is lovely in it’s minimalism– if you had other things cluttering the side columns, the balance wouldn’t have been as good…) Have a super fantastic rest of the week!
Happy new year, Reese! Also, omg you did that book! Heard about that in some news about graphic design awards.
Congrats!
*also can i link you uuuuuu super awkward
OMG hahahahaha Andrea I’m such a fan of your work during the Washi event!!!!! It’s be an honor to get linked HEHEHE wheeee yup I designed the book -_- I wish I could redesign everything nga hahaha! Happy New year!!!
